Study: The Value Added Models of the Future – Banks and Providers in 2010
The study entitled "The Value Added Models of the Future – Banks and Providers in 2010" looks at the changes in the banking value chain resulting from sourcing activities and examines new trendsetting and market-driving value added models in the industry. Some 200 managers and experts working for banks and providers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland were interviewed for the study, the aim of which is to throw light on future service provision in the banking industry and on the changes caused by business process sourcing.
The study was undertaken jointly by the Institute for Business Informatics (IWI), the Swiss Institute of Banking and Finance (both affiliated with the University of St. Gallen) and The Information Management Group (IMG), the international management consultancy. Background support was provided by the "Sourcing in the Financial Industry" competence center at the Universities of St. Gallen and Leipzig, where changes in the value chains of banks and providers are studied.

Efficient Global Master Data Management
The challenge
The wish for consistent master data is rendered more difficult of attainment by the increasing distribution of data among different systems, the global use of master data, and utilisation of one and the same data record in an enormous range of different contexts. Management of partial attributes in a wide variety of systems is also increasing in complexity. For globally operating companies, in particular, consistent data quality and quantity is indispensable if unnecessary inefficiencies are to be avoided. Worldwide distribution of decision-relevant data has increased dramatically as globalisation advances, and will intensify still further in the years ahead. Global Master Data Management is the answer to the market’s emerging challenges for globally operating enterprises.
Approaches to system integration provide only partial solutions to the problems entailed by globally distributed data, since integration scenarios presuppose correct master data, which are frequently not in place. Without consistent master data, the complexity of information processes cannot be reduced. In addition, misconceived or inadequate master data management will in the medium to long term result in a substantially restricted level of data quality. This leads to increased outlay for ongoing updates and migration, to higher costs and in worst case also to the loss of business associates or impaired competitiveness. With the introduction of SAP Global Master Data Management (GMDM), users possess a tool that enables master data challenges to be met and mastered, and updating processes to be handled with long-term efficacy.
